June Fishing Report – Anna Maria Island & St. Petersburg, Florida (Southern Tampa Bay)

If you’re fishing in Southern Tampa Bay – from St. Petersburg to Anna Maria Island – the inshore bite is on fire right now. Here’s what’s been happening on the water:

Snook Fishing Action

Snook fishing has been outstanding, especially early in the morning. On higher tides, we’re finding snook tight to the mangroves, with live white bait (pilchards) being the top producer. On lower tides, large numbers of snook are moving out to sandbars and grass flats, making them easier to target in open water.

When the wind lays down, beach fishing heats up. Snook are showing up in the surf along the Gulf side, and we’re sight-casting live pilchards to fish cruising just off the shoreline. This is some of the most exciting action of the season.

Big Trout & Jack Crevalle

Mixed in with the snook bite, overslot seatrout have been showing up around the flats and deeper edges. These bigger trout are aggressive and hitting the same live bait offerings.

Jack crevalles have been running the shallow Gulf waters, often in schools. These fish hit hard and fight even harder – a great bonus while targeting beach snook.

Tampa Bay Inshore Fishing Conditions

Inshore fishing throughout Tampa Bay, especially from St. Pete down to Anna Maria Island, has been very productive. Whether you’re fishing the flats, mangrove shorelines, or beach structure, there are opportunities all day long.
