There are many reasons why I love fall fishing in the Tampa Bay, but Triple Tail might be the number one fish I love fishing for in the fall besides redfish.  Not only can you site cast them, but they are pound for pound one of the hardest fighting fish and if you can catch a keeper (18 inches), they are very good on the grill!  I usually catch my bigger Triple Tail in deeper water (5-7 miles off the coast) in around 40-50 feet of water and can guarantee a great time while targeting them!  The stone crab traps are now in the water which helps create a wonderful Triple Tail fishery in the Tampa Bay and Gulf of Mexico.  Triple Tail are highly migratory but love to hang out on debris and take cover under crab trap buoys in between their travels.  On a good day, I will see 30-40 Triple Tail in the Tampa Bay, but typically only cast at the bigger ones unless I am tagging the small fish.  Over the last couple of Triple Tail scouting trips, I have seen over 200 fish, most of them are smaller fish but we hooked and lost a few big fish on Sunday and landed a borderline keeper.  Triple Tail fishing in the Tampa Bay isn’t something I revolve the entire  fishing charter around but I can spend an hour or so on the charter to add a little more fishing to the trip with the opportunity to site cast a fish or two and put something for dinner in the cooler.  Are Triple Tail on your bucket list fish to catch?  Get in contact with me and I can make it happen for you!
